Setting
This film is set in a suburban setting as it portrays a normal surrounding for where the audience would originally believe that no horror events would occur here, although in the trailer of 'Annabelle' it shows that they do. This may also haunt the audience as they may live in areas similar to this.

Characters
In the trailer of 'Annabelle' we, the audience, see there is a normal family of a expecting mother and her partner. We also notice that 'Annabelle' uses similar codes and conventions to other existing horror films, such as: 'Insidious' and 'The Conjuring'. This is because they all use normal families in their films to emphasise how bad things can happen to anyone. |
From the trailer of 'Annabelle' we know that Annabelle is a doll, but we do not know who this dark, haunting figure carrying the doll is and that's what will spooks the audience out throughout. As we don't know this person's identity this follows typical horror film codes and conventions as in a lot of other horror films the audience don't know the identity of the killer or a haunting character until the end as they wear masks or have no available light displaying them. In some horror films they may not even tell/show the audience the killer at the end and the audience will be left not knowing, creating an opening for the film company to produce more films in the future.

Props
The main prop in the film 'Annabelle' would be Annabelle the doll herself, although she could also be introduced as a character too. In my opinion she is more a prop as the characters have to physically pick her up and Annabelle also doesn't speak or move. The positioning in this certain scene with the mother character and Annabelle the doll, shows that although the mother has more power in the sense she is picking the doll up, Annabelle is above her and so looks like she in fact has more power than the mother.
