When researching for our media product I analysed 3 horror film opening scenes, which included:
- Halloween (1978)
- Saw 2 (2008)

I recorded the timings of each of these three horror film opening scene in order to plan the timings for our own horror film opening scene.

I also researched three other horror film opening scenes in lots more detail, which included:
- Saw VI
- The Woman In Black
- Annabelle
Saw VI was a lot more gorier than our horror film opening scene, mainly because the age rating of Saw VI is an '18' and ours is a '15'. Saw did not have a particular prop but there were knifes used to cut the character's bodies in order to create a gruesome effect for the audience which would make some of them squeal or look away. Saw contained a killer who had hidden their identity, as they have tapes and a doll not a human character killer. This links to our killer in our opening scene, as we masked our killer and gave away a few clues but not their identity.
The Woman in Black was a more psychological horror and so there was no gruesome parts in the opening scene that contained blood or cutting up body parts. Despite this, there were parts in which were upsetting or even haunting and that would be the scene containing the three young girls jumping out of the window. In our horror film opening scene we did not use children as actors but we do have child like music played throughout the whole opening scene.
Finally, Annabelle similarly to The Woman In Black, is more of a psychological horror film and so would have as much gory parts in it than Saw VI has. As Annabelle is a doll which symbolises child-like attitudes in the opening scene. This is similar to our opening scene as we have child-like music playing throughout juxtaposing typical codes and conventions of children in horror films. Children are often used in horror films to show how valuable they are to their families and what they'll do to protect them in unfamiliar situations.

To conclude, I believe our horror film was mostly similar to Annabelle as the music played throughout is alike to ours and challenges typical codes and conventions of horror films, introducing new narratives and attitudes for the audience to intel.
