Opening Scene
Setting
In this opening scene for 'Saw VI' the general atmosphere is dark and haunting, which suits the genre of the film which is horror. There are many mechanical objects around the setting which makes the audience question their use, although the machines are not used for what you might first think. There are many Saw films before this certain one, but they all have a similar theme. For this certain Saw film, the characters start in an abandoned room which creates a sense of isolation for both the characters and the audience, who are waiting for something to make them jump.

Props
There are many props used in the opening scene for Saw and they link well with the genre, this is because most of them are weapons, such as: knifes and nails used to cut up parts of the character's body. As this film is an age rating of an '18' it is extremely gory and shows a lot of the action in the story, i.e. cutting up limbs and blood pouring out of the bodies of the unfortunate characters.

Characters
In this film there is a white man and black woman acting in the film. Despite this, the killer/ jokester of the franchise 'Jigsaw' does not go easier on the woman and makes it an equal - gender - race torture. As the opening scene begins you do not know how these two individuals have got here and if they know each other or not. The woman tries to take charge and prevent any bad actions occurring, but the man does not listen to her causing Jigsaw's game to begin.
There is not a lot of dialogue in the scene as the two characters are told to start the game by cutting parts of their body off to weigh. These two characters believe this is the only thing to do to prevent death and so continue.
