We addressed our audience in a number of different ways. One successful way in which we addressed the audience would be related to one of our characters - our killer.
Towards the end of our opening scene, we added a jump scare completed with startling sounds, suspenseful music and creepy scenes of the killer with a knife. This would attract the audience as it may startle them and make them feel intrigued to watch on too. |

Linking back to my research
Looking back through my research page on horror film opening scenes, I knew when certain people, who made the film, were introduced during the opening scene. This pervious knowledge enabled me to understand when we added in the names of people in our own opening sequence, such as the producers' and actors' names.
The timings of my horror film opening sequence was:
0.03 - Logo (production company) 0.11 - Production/Director 0.15 - Music editor 0.18 - Director of Photography 0.21 - Editing Director 0.56 - Actor (Rachel Cox) 0.58 - Actor (Claudia McCarter) 1.03 - Actor (Jessica Williams) 1.05 - Horror Film Title revealed |
Also in my research, I learned about the different features of a horror film and the codes and conventions that enable a horror film to create a certain effect on the audience watching.
I analysed three different horror film opening scenes in order to gather as much information about how horror film codes and conventions link into the opening scene. Examples of typical horror codes and conventions we have used within our media product are: - Using a knife as weapon (prop) - Using blood in our horror film - Killer is masked as its identity isn't shown. |
We have put our trailer onto YouTube in order to transfer it across to our website, but also to have it open to comments and feedback too. Having cross-convergence between both our trailer and our feedback allows it to become a lot easier to receive feedback purely based on the video.
