Question One - What Location would best suit our horror film?
We asked this question in order to get an idea of what location would be best for our horror film. The result was that the audience believed a forest would be the better location, and so we have chosen this location to shoot our horror film in. |
Question Two - Would you rather have a male or female killer?
In typical horror films the killer is often perceived or is a male character. We wanted to see if it made much of a difference to the audience if they preferred a female or a male killer. The results showed that they did not seem to particularly want a male more than a women and so whatever gender we pick for the killer would not be disappointing to the audience. |
Question Three - How would you prefer the background music to be like?
In many, if not all, horror films there is usually background music played for the opening scene and so we wanted to check which type of music would be best to use. The two main choices would be High music and Jumpy music. High music would be quick and high pitched similar to Jumpy music would be. |
Question Four - Which out of these sub-genres do you prefer?
This question was asked to determine the most popular sub-genre for our horror film opening scene. The results show that the most popular sub-genre was Psychological, followed by Killer. We decided to choose killer as we could interpret Jumpy music into the killer sub-genre making it a jumpy faced-paced opening scene for the audience to enjoy. |
Question Five - What Scares you the most?
In horror film there are many aspects that can make the audience become scared or paranoid. These include: Children, Ghosts, Jump Scares etc. The results of this question shows that more people were scared of jump scares in a film than blood or weapons, this may be because jump scares are more intimate than some blood on the screen, the audience can turn away from blood but jump scare are usually partnered with sharp music that makes the audience become startled. |
Question Six - Which of these horror films do you prefer?
For this question I asked which horror films out of the above selection the audience would say they prefer. The top two films that the audience preferred were: Scream and Saw. I analyzed both of these films in some detail and I understood some of the typical codes and conventions that they both had. Our opening scene is a lot more similar to Scream as they have a masked killer and typically screaming. |
Question Seven - Would you prefer the killer to be revealed in the opening scene?
In horror opening scenes usually the killer is not revealed straight away to add suspense into not knowing the killer's identity. For our horror film opening scene, relating back to the results, we decided to agree with not telling the audience who the killer is straight away. This adds suspense and intensity to our opening scene also. |
Question Eight - Which of these horror film titles do you prefer?
Lastly, we provided 7 potential horror film names for the audience to choose their favourite. They decided 'Drag me to Hell' was the best name out of the above list and we would possible, agreeing with the results, choose it as our name for the horror film opening scene.
